We are a small ceramics company from Oaxaca
We specializes in designing and producing high-temperature ceramic crockery.

We’re a team of young people
We give thanks to the earth by creating authentic dishes from its materials, making food special. We are driven every day by the possibility of learning new things, the constant improvement in our skills, and the challenge that comes from developing new products in each project.
Founders
La Chicharra was founded in 2012 by Eduardo López and María Fernanda Oviedo, both ceramicists by trade.

High Temperature
The ceramic produced by La Chicharra is a Gress, a low-porosity, high-temperature ceramic, burned at a 1260 °C (2300 °F).
La Chicharra’s crockery is recommended to plate and present dishes, not as cooking utensils.
The value bet
La Chicharra, uses raw materials of Mexican origin to create its pastes and glazes.
All the pieces and coatings are made with materials free of lead or other heavy metals.
The glazes (colors) are the product of a long development process inside the workshop which includes the search for soils, clays and ashes, experimenting with the ingredients, proportions and mixtures, as well as the application and firing. This process gives La Chicharra its value bet and is the brand’s main characteristic.

The Design
At its form, La Chicharra has synthetic design, it strives to allow the color and texture of the glazes to make each piece unique.
Behind La Chicharra’s designs, there is a multidisciplinary team of ceramicists, designers, industrial engineers, graphic designers and business engineers.
The Social Impact
La Chicharra has become an important source of employment and professionalization for young people who have no chance to study or work due to a lack of work experience, and for whom, in most cases, migration would otherwise be the only option.
La Chicharra provides its workers with medical insurance, vacations, end of the year bonus, constant training, occupational safety, and yearly contracts.
Gender equality is a priority in La Chicharra, while acknowledging physical differences between men and women, there is no gender predisposition for any roles.

La Chicharra and its team
La Chicharra is today a small company with close to twenty workers, most of them, young people originally from the outskirts of Oaxaca City, who have learned the ceramicist trade while working at La Chicharra, along with discipline, punctuality, attention to detail and teamwork.
Having the opportunity to also work with people who are not experts in the trade, but that are willing to learn it, allows for experimentation, integration and mutual growth, and the creation of strong bonds.
La Chicharra’s team of young people is driven every day by the possibility of learning new things, the constant improvement in their skills, and the challenge which comes from the development of new products in each project.
